
“THESE are the times that try men’s souls.”
With these immortal words, Thomas Paine began publication of The American Crisis in December 1776. Although his statement left an indelible mark on the nation’s conscience, the lines that followed are even more meaningful, given the moral and political morass in which we now live.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: — Tis dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to set a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.
Paine’s words have reverberated throughout our history as, from Bunker Hill to Baghdad, patriots have fought and died to procure freedom for others, while preserving it for themselves and their posterity. Yet today, many treat Heaven’s Celestial Article like a piece of timeworn baggage from an ancient voyage – a worthless antique that no longer fits their needs. Now the sixties counter culture has morphed into today’s cancel culture, where freedoms exist only if they conform to the Progressive Democrat’s worldview.
Driven by a thirst for unbridled power, these modern day grand inquisitors — takers who have never sacrificed anything for the country — are determined to censor or cancel everything we once held dear, including our freedom of speech. So far, they’ve banned, though not yet burned, six books by Dr. Seuss, added warning labels to such Walt Disney productions as The Muppet Show, and taken the movies Dumbo, the Aristocats, and Peter Pan out of circulation. They’ve also cancelled actors like Sidney Poitier because his roles in movies like In the Heat of the Night were too white, and Brock Peters because his character in To Kill a Mockingbird was too prototypically black. Their attempt to cleanse what they see as our intolerantly racist, misogynist, and xenophobic society grows stronger by the day, and unless the Democrat’s crusade against America is defeated, the damage to our way of life will be catastrophic and irreversible.
Since these privileged straighteners and fixers can no longer bring themselves to say the words, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, it seems unlikely they will listen to other equally powerful words; words that were forged in the furnace of affliction, at a time When Hell Was in Session. But ignoring them won’t make them go away.
Democracy and freedom are rarities; hard to attain, harder to preserve. The pages of history are littered with freedom’s stillborn, of people who rose against their oppressor, only to have sweet victory stolen from their grasp by another oppressor. But we are different. The strength of our nation is more than a material strength. We are a strongly moral people, and our country is based on spiritual strength. Lose that and we lose everything — Jeremiah Denton.
Among today’s Democrats, a strong sense of morality and spiritual strength are hard to find.
No one suffered more for his country than Admiral Denton, whose faith in God sustained him during those seven, horrifying, torture-filled years in a North Vietnamese POW camp. Even today, his story of heroism and endurance renews our faith, and fills us with an indefatigable resolve to defend this nation against all her enemies, whether foreign or domestic. Now we are engaged in an existential battle to preserve our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In this new American crisis, neutrality is not an option, so summer soldiers and sunshine patriots need not apply, but if victory is to be ours — if the Republic is to survive — we must know the enemy, and prepare for what they can and will do, not what we think they might do. Above all else, when they declare their intentions we must believe them — no matter how dark, perverse or anti-American those intentions may seem. This, however, is a much harder task than one might imagine — even when the facts are clear and indisputable.
To say that the Democrat party has a dark and troubling past would make even Captain Obvious green with envy. It was, after all, the party of slavery, the Southern Rebellion, the Klu Klux Klan, Jumping Jim Crow laws, and segregation. It was the party of FDR’s Japanese-American internment camps, and of LBJ, who used a nonexistent Tonkin Gulf Incident to turn Vietnam’s “police action” into a bloody, full-blown war of attrition that cost 58,000 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines their lives.
It was also the party of Boss Tweed, Tammany Hall, Richard Daley’s Chicago machine, and Jimmy Carter, who unleashed the terrorist state of Iran on the world. Now it’s the party of Carter’s heirs, the Iranian collaborators Barack Obama and Joe Biden, along with that great serial collaborator, and constant provider of aid and comfort to the enemy, “Hanoi John” Kerry.
Morally speaking, today’s Democrats utilize abortion as a pre and post- partum means of birth control, and believe that a male can transition to a female while maintaining his xy chromosomes. They also champion the right of “transitioning” men to invade women’s bath and locker rooms, and dominate female athletic events. With the so-called “equality act,” they intend to enshrine these immoral and antiscientific principles into law, and require that women who “identify” as men must be called men – albeit men who miraculously possess the uniquely female properties of menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth. To the Democrats, these positions are not only dogma; they are sacrosanct so, in the Biden administration, LGBTQ flags now fly alongside Old Glory at all US embassies, even in the face of John Adams’ statement of constitutional limitations.
Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
Given the rapid decline of our increasingly immoral and anti-religious society, President Adams must be shaking his head and saying, “I told you so.”
Although this litany of disgraceful behaviors seems all-inclusive, it is not. The Democrats have demanded that we shut up and accept 2020’s election results immediately, after they spent four years promoting Hillary Clinton’s lie that Putin helped Donald Trump steal the 2016 election. Moreover, they want to see Obama’s dream of fundamentally transforming America fulfilled, and will use any means necessary — legal or illegal — to achieve that end. As Chuck Schumer gleefully declared, “Now we take Georgia. Then we change America.” Simply put, today’s Democrats are modern-day Bolsheviks, who are hell-bent on transforming America into a collectivist state; an objective that Obama promoted during his December 8, 1995 interview with The Chicago Reader:
In America, we have this strong bias toward individual action. You know, we idolize the John Wayne hero who comes in to correct things with both guns blazing. But individual actions, individual dreams, are not sufficient; we must unite in collective action, build collective institutions and organizations.
Obama meant what he said; we should have believed him.
At the conclusion of Brett Kavanaugh’s Stalinesque show trial in 2018, Lindsey Graham told the Democrats, “Boy, you all want power. God, I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham.” Senator Graham’s wish came true. The American people not only saw through that sham, they saw through the sham election of 2020 as well, but as the battle to defeat the Democrat-led insurgency waxed hot in the senate, The Great Republican Skedaddle began, with only two patriots, senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, holding the line. Once the Democrats recognized this weakness, they seized the opportunity and attacked, with Representative Bennie Thompson demanding that both patriots land on the no fly list, and Senator Manchin calling for their removal via the 14th amendment. Unfortunately, Senator Cruz quickly surrendered the field, leaving Senator Hawley as the last combatant standing.
Regrettably, Thompson and Manchin are not alone. AOC wants to dictate to, rather than negotiate with, the Republicans, and has compiled a Trump supporters’ enemies list; Pelosi’s House of Representatives charged the former President with fomenting an insurrection, and impeached him again as Maxine Waters sought to have him prosecuted for premeditated murder. Not to be outdone, Michelle Obama begged big tech to ban President Trump and his followers from their platforms permanently, while Biden compared them all to Joseph Goebbels.
All these frenetic goings-on beg the question: In this atmosphere of high-octane hatred, what will the Biden administration seek to accomplish? Once again, the Democrats have transmitted their battle plan in the clear. We must we believe them, and act accordingly.
The Democrats have already made good on their promise to stop building the wall, throw open the southern border, flood the country with illegal aliens, and blame the damage on Donald Trump. They have also mollified the masses with another $1,400 of stimulus money, and are working to eliminate the filibuster so Republicans cannot stop their legislative efforts. Once this is accomplished, they will ram the House-approved HR-1 through the Senate so that the central government, with mass mail-in voting, ballot harvesting, same-day registration, and no photo ID requirement, can seize control of the rules, and manage the outcomes, of all future elections. Finally, to insure their stranglehold on elections cannot be broken, they will push the Democrat Socialists of America backed PRO (Protecting the Right to Organize) act, and destroy the right-to-work laws currently enacted in 27 states. As Chuck Schumer told CNN’s Anderson Cooper during a March 9 interview, the Republicans either can throw in with them or be run over roughshod.
I always say, we want to work with Republicans where we can. But we have to get big, bold change done, and that is our number one priority. I have a hope. I’m always an optimist, you know that, Anderson, that now that Republicans have seen we can do it without them, that they’ll realize they ought to try to work with us. But we’re not going to make the mistake of 2008 and 2009 and do such a small, measly proposal that it won’t get us out of the mess that we are in right now.
Even though the Democrats’ majority in the House is razor thin, and the Senate is split 50-50, they are uninterested in governing, and will not negotiate with the Republicans. Instead, their big, bold moves will involve packing SCOTUS, and increasing their numbers in the House and Senate during the 2022 midterms. As we speak, the House of Representatives is pushing legislation that would make Washington D.C. a state, and has declared its intent to provide statehood for Puerto Rico as well. This move would add two new states and four additional senators to their fold and, if successful, turn President Lincoln’s January 27, 1838 alienation of affections prophecy into reality.
I know the American People are much attached to their Government; I know they would suffer much for its sake; I know they would endure evils long and patiently before they would ever think of exchanging it for another. Yet, notwithstanding all this, if the laws be continually despised and disregarded, if their rights to be secure in their persons and property, are held by no better tenure than the caprice of a mob, the alienation of their affections from the Government is the natural consequence; and to that, sooner or later, it must come.
As usual, Honest Abe was right. Yet today, the man who preserved the Union, freed the slaves, and summoned the better angels of our nature, is banned in Boston, pulled down in Portland, and, along with Washington, Jefferson, and our few remaining better angels, banished in much of the country. But will the “party of Lincoln” rise up in righteous indignation and brace the enemy so that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth? Perish the thought!
